Our trip North...

roadtrip2

It wasn't uneventful, it could have been worse. It started out slow, taking us a little over four hours to make it to Reno, where we spent the night. We hadn't planned to stop in Reno but the $40 room was too good to resist and we were all tired. After a not so good nights sleep (for the adults anyways) we hit the highway, for 19 hours. Yes, 19 long hours.
We made it to just north of Elko for food and gas. T and G ate Subway, that was the start of their branching out and trying things they thought they would hate. Dub surprised me and loaded his sandwich up with all sorts of yummies. Refreshed and full we headed towards Wells, this is when things got interesting. Our phones weren't working well and the girl had to pee, so I made a move and hoped Mr. Fun would follow. It worked and we found ourselves with a big split in the tire that some guy noticed while we were parked.

The girl said "you're welcome for making you stop". While waiting for Budget to send someone out to replace the tire the boys ran around and we talked. Thankful that we stopped and what could have happened with me behind the moving truck didn't.

Back on the road, the girl was fascinated with the mountains and snow. She kept mentioning how pretty it was. G was sleeping, I think he slept more this trip than any other road trip we've taken. He did mention that he was tired of listening to Taylor Swift, we must of listened to her CD's at least 5 times. But like I said, on this day we drove 19 hours straight.

It was still light out when we made it to Shoshone for gas. We asked Siri for directions and she gave us two ways to go, we chose one. It took us through a charming town lit up with Christmas lights, and horse drawn carriages carried people from one place to another. As we headed out of this town we were met with a ROAD CLOSED sign, what? Back through town, as I cursed the town for not putting up road closed signs sooner. It was dark now and you couldn't help but enjoy all the pretty twinkling lights.
roadtrip5
Our detour added about 30 miles onto our trip and I was getting worried that we were lost. I should know better, Mr. Fun got us back on track. It was late, I don't remember the time, all I know is we both had sleepy kids but there was no where to stop. We drove through many little towns and everything was closed. This is also where I almost hit two different dogs, miles apart. Mr. Fun almost hit and an owl and a deer committed suicide by running right into the side of the moving truck. I haven't screamed so loud or heard the girl scream so loud before. G just had really big eyes of disbelief. We saw the deer split in many pieces as it flew towards us, luckily the little boys were with Mr. Fun and sleeping.I think Dub would have been extremely sad for the deer and T would have thought it was cool which disturbs me. Mr. Fun pulled over to inspect the trucks, he said he saw the deer hit in his mirror and thought "he gone!" and yes, the deer seriously exploded on contact. I avoided what I could but couldn't avoid some flesh and blood on my bumper. G's eyes were huge and the girl was seriously traumatized. She was on the edge of her seat every time we saw more deer, which had totally excited her before.
After many failed attempts to find someplace open so we could get in a potty break, it was 2:30 AM, a motel came into sight. Luckily they had a room, so add Salmon, Idaho to places we've stayed. We left Reno at 7:30am and were so ready for some sleep and maybe an adult drink or two. The kids hadn't eaten anything since lunch in Elko and they were ready for some real food but it was 2:30 in the morning so snacks of whatever was left was consumed as we watched TV and caught up with social media. After 4 hrs of solid sleep(thanks to my friend, vodka) we sent the kids down for breakfast and we packed up the blankets and pillows. We were on the home stretch.
We had 3 hours to go, what we didn't expect was snow to be falling over the pass as we made our way down the mountain. It was slow going for us but the view was beautiful. This is where I have to stop and tell everyone how awesome my kids are. We had very little whining and absolutely no fighting or bickering through this whole trip. It was a long trip and being stuck in a car for that long at any age isn't fun. The Fun kids handled it so well and made this mama so proud. The views helped, I'm sure. They were a nice distraction.

Then we made it...safe and sound. We were in our new home state....
roadtrip7

As we pulled up to our street, the boys didn't waste anytime. They jumped out of the truck and made their way down the dirt road they remember exploring back in September.

Thanks to great friends, we are home, for now. Hoping Mr. Fun finds a job soon and my business takes off as the weather starts to warm up.
