Sick kids...

It doesn't matter the age, when your child is sick you worry. You don't sleep well, every noise they make sits you up straining to hear if they need you, hoping they don't puke on the carpet. There they are at the side of your bed, like a creepy stalker asking for water. As you get up to get them some they invade your space, making themselves comfortable leaving you a sliver of the bed. By the time you get back they are asleep and you don't have the heart to wake them. You climb into bed on your side and try to cover yourself without disturbing them, all night you lay there trying to sleep but every breath they take has you on edge. No? That's just me? That was just my night last night? Even at the age of eight, he kept me awake like he was two. He was restless, kept moving around, like every 38 seconds his legs would move, every 42 seconds he would cough, every 67 seconds he would roll over, stealing more of my covers. Did somebody say coffee? I need an IV of it today, just stick that needle in my vein.
He, of course, is peppy and seems on the mend today. He's coloring and watching Scooby Doo after eating a half a loaf of bread made into toast. I'm dragging and cursing the laundry that needs to be done and the floors that have been neglected far too long.
They say it gets easier as your kids get older, don't believe them....the challenges are just different and you don't have to carry as much stuff with you. Older kids still don't make it to the toilet when they puke, they still have horrible aim and they still make messes. They still need you to put you last at times and give them 110% of you.
